Nov 24, 2009

On November 24th, 2009 the North Miami Beach Police Department in conjunction with the NICB Florida Medical Fraud Task Force conducted for the first time in its history a fake insurance card traffic check. Due in part to economic times, it was deemed by the North Miami Beach Police that drivers on the road with no car insurance pose a real threat to the public at large in the event of an accident, negatively impacting both the legitimate insured as well as the member companies.

This operation was a collaborated effort between the North Miami Beach Police Department, NICB, and the (19) member companies that participated in this operation which were State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, 21st Century, GMAC, MetLife, United Auto, Infinity Insurance, Seminole Insurance, Geico, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, Titan, Victoria, Depositors, Allied, Unitrin Direct, Star Casualty and Mercury Insurance & (1) Non Member RAC Insurance.

This operation netted (5) arrests and over 60 traffic citations in a span of several hours. Thanks to the collaborated efforts of all involved the North Miami Beach Police Department plans on repeating this operation in the coming year.
